July 2020

Female Stag Beetle at work and Tanners Long horn Beetle too.


A walk around Upper Hollesley Common where Crossbills were moving, total of 42.

First day back at the Hollelsey pub and 2 Hobbys were catching House Martins. 

Boyton, 4 Whimbrel, Spoonbill, Greensand, Cuckoo still, Barn Owl. Water rail may be a patch tick

A Sooty Tern was seen up the coast so belted it to the patch in hope of it passing Hollesley, Half four to 6pm no sooty tern unfortunately but adult and juv Med Gulls, 3 Whimbrel and 17 Common Tern.

In the garden whilst going through the moth trap, Common sand, Siskin, Bullfinch and Whithroat. Flock of Crossbill 4 Adult Med gulls circling the garden ant catching.

Just had to share this Lunar Hornet Moth to lure in the garden. Stunning and a first for me certainly in the UK saw something similar in Majorca some years ago. 


Found some Woolley Aphids too.

Female Southern Hawker joined me in the house.

25th July 

Had a long weekend Camping, yes you guessed it Kelling Heath. Great weekend although not much seen on the heath bird wise. Silver Studded Blues and Graylings were nice though.



Cley and East bank had Juv Little Ringed Plover, Ruff, 27 Black Tailed Godwit and 3 Whimbrel.

Wells next to sea flash was brilliant with 3 Garganey, 4 LRP, 1 Greenshank, 6 Greensand and  2 Med gull.

Potter Heigham on the way home 7 Spoonbills and a few Male Ruffs


Back home and 6 Cattle Egret at Boyton. 


30th July a visit again to Upper Hollesley common where i found a cracking Slow worm.



Back in the garden Amblyteles armatorius


Hydrophilus piceus Great Silver Water Beetle. Found in the moth trap, 2nd this year
