Gulls n Geese Hollesley to Boyton

January 10th

A Good day on the patch at Hollesley, a Ring tailed harrier headed south through the site, spotted originally at Snape. Dogs flushed a Jack Snipe from the side of the path, Pipit numbers were up today with plenty of meadow and Rock with the 3 Water pipits. 38 White fronted geese in flight towards Boyton when a Bittern took of south, a Raven over whilst watching the Cattle Egret, but bird of the day a Mallard x Pintail hybrid.

Towards Boyton, 2 Pinkfooted Geese with the hundreds of Greylags and 110 Whitefronts, 14 Bean Geese too.

Gulls were on the cards today with a 1st Winter Caspian Gull and 3 Northern Herring Gulls, the water was frozen so there wasn't much else about. In my garden a male and female Blackcap.

31st January

Great day today walked Hollesley to Boyton and picked up a few good birds starting with 19 Bean Geese on Hollesley flash, birds seen at Boyton but now here.

The Cattle egret was still on site. Half way to Boyton I could see 2 Bewick Swans on the Boyton flash, a bird that had been seen during the week and luckily it stayed for me.  Whilst watching the Swans 3 Buggling Common Cranes flew over but really high.

I moved closer to the flash getting nice views of the Bewick Swans, just as 3 Spoonbill dropped in, 2 adults and a juv. I looked through the Whitefronts when I picked up the 2 Pink footed geese again. other birds of note 22 Barnacle geese, 2 Brent geese and 12 Ruff.

1st February
Just a few hours out to Hollesley this morning but a 1st Winter Caspian gull on the flash was good, however bird of the day were the 35 Pochard that flew in whilst watching 6 Tufted ducks. A record for me. Not a lot of note anywhere else on site until I got back to the carpark when the Cattle egret turned up again.
